An exhibition commemorating the loss of a community-sponsored submarine in the Second World War is to return.

St John’s Church is to host the exhibition, which features the sinking of the HMS Sickle 70 years ago.

The submarine was partly paid for by the residents of Epping and Harlow who raised money during “Warship Week” in 1942.

The submarine was sunk two years later, with 50 people on board.

The exhibition was previously held in June this year on the 70th anniversary of the sinking.

It has been organised by Epping Town Council, the Epping Forest District Museum, St John’s Church and the Royal British Legion, and will run from November 4 to November 11.
