Media students are using the internet to finance the shooting of a horror movie in a reputedly haunted Gothic mansion.

Nescot students have already raised over £600 of the £1,250 they need to fund their film The Retreat.

Their strategy has included quiz nights, cake sales and selling film credits and signed copies of the script via website Indiegogo.

The venue, Ilam Hall in the Peak District, is a Victorian pile which operates as a youth hostel but is also a popular site for ghost hunters.

Graham Chalk, media section leader at the college said: "This is a major project for our students, and will see them getting some really valuable experience.

"Seeing the film through from inception to screening, they’re working on issues like logistics, marketing and project management."

Connor Sinclair, 17, said: "So far we’ve just done small projects so the big project will really show us what the industry feels like."

The plot follows Harriet Davidson who is sent to become a patient in a rehabilitation clinic for young people but does not know why, and is trying to fill gaps in her memory before it is too late.

The group of 17 and 18 year-old BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma students were given the script but take care of all filming, directing, producing, creating and designing props, costumes and makeup.

Amy Stevens, 18, said: "We haven’t filmed anything outside college yet and we are excited about having different buildings in the background and more variety for our show reel.

"Family and friends have been very supportive and social media has helped hugely."
