A police car chase through the streets of Epsom last night ended in a quiet cul-de-sac to the amazement of residents.

Ms De Souza, whose mother lives on Eastway, Epsom, said the pursuit took place in the road at about 6.30pm.

She said they looked out of the window to see two cars being chased by two police cars.

Ms De Souza said: "We heard speeding cars and sirens - but not the usual ones so they were undercover police cars.

"There was a black BMW and a silver Ford focus.

"A guy was arrested who was in the black car and put into a big police van.

"Another man ran off through the alley leading to West Hill Avenue.

"Two more police patrol cars arrived.

"The police didn’t seem to find anyone."

She said the Ebbisham Sports Centre was closed off for two hours while they searched for the man.

Ms De Souza said that after searching the silver car and removing a jacket, the police left at 8.30pm.

Her mother said she and her neighbours could not believe it as the road was usually so quiet.

She said: "Cars weren’t able to come into the close and people weren’t allowed to walk through."

"You would have to see it to believe it. This is a cul de sac.

"People don’t come through here. It’s a dead end.

"We didn’t know what was going on. We all thought ‘what is going on in such a quiet road?’."

Police have not yet commented on the chase.
