A delighted former jockey has been crowned Epsom’s most successful trainer this season after his horses rode to victory multiple times.

Lee Carter, who took up training following a career as a jockey and work rider, won the Sir David Prosser Trophy at the season finale at Epsom Downs Racecourse on Sunday.

Mr Carter, from Old Yard, Clear Height Stables, won a staff Christmas party and a £1,000 donation for the charity of his choice - Princess Alice Hospice.

He said: "After looking after a number of very close family and friends so wonderfully, we feel they are more than deserving of this donation."

Mr Carter won the award after securing eight first place wins, eleven second place wins and eight third place wins at Epsom Downs, Sandown Park and Kempton Park Racecourses.

He said: "I am absolutely delighted to be the winning trainer of the Sir David Prosser Trophy.

"The team has worked extremely hard over the last year and we have tried to run as many horses as possible at London Racecourses with the championship as a target. "Having the option of running horses at these high quality tracks so close to the yard is fantastic, especially with the majority of owners being local to Surrey."

Punters turned out in force to the final race day on Sunday.

Simon Durrant, general manager of the racecourse, said: "The Totepool Season Finale at Epsom Downs concluded yet another fantastic season of racing and on course entertainment for the racecourse.

"The totepool IJF Apprentices’ Derby Handicap Stakes, which was the last of five Derby runs this season, was won by Majestic Sun and apprentice jockey Jason Nason in a an exciting dash to the finish against the Gary Moore trained Whinging Willie."
