An escaped convict has appeared in court charged with stealing £18,000 worth of jewellery and the car keys to a VW Beetle after a string of burglaries.

Adam James Yaroo, 28, appeared at South East Surrey Magistrates’ Court on Friday, September 19, charged with seven offences.

It is believed that Yaroo absconded from Sudbury open prison, in Derbyshire, on Monday, June 23.

He was recaptured by Surrey police officers in Clapham, South London, last Tuesday, September 16.

Yaroo did not enter a plea for any of the charges on Friday and will stand trial at Guildford Crown Court for them next month.

He has been charged with escaping lawful custody from Sudbury, in Derbyshire, on June 23.

He has also been charged with burglary from Epsom Lane South, in Tadworth, on July 3, during which £18,000 worth of jewellery was stolen.

Yaroo is also accused of stealing cash and a VW Beetle car key from Hoppety Cottage, The Hoppety, in Tadworth, on July 11.

On the same day, he is charged with "attempting to enter as a trespasser with intent to steal" from Hylands House, Waterhouse Lane, in Tadworth.

On August 27, he has been charged with "attempting to enter as a trespasser with intent to steal" from Rock Dene, Outwood Lane, in Chipstead.

Two days later, he stands accused of stealing jewellery, watches and electrical items worth nearly £5,000 from Birkdale, Outwood Lane, in Kingswood.

Yaroo has also been charged with "entering as a trespasser with intent to steal" from a house in Great Tattenhams, in Tadworth, on the same day.
