The public got a rare chance to go backstage at a theatre yesterday to mark Epsom Playhouse’s 30th anniversary.

Magician Chris Wood, builder turned singer Michael Armstrong and musician Lisa Davies performed during the open day at the playhouse.

Pull the Other Theatre Education also ran children’s workshops while performing arts groups from Epsom introduced themselves to visitors.

A few hundred people visited the playhouse on the day and 80 of them went on free backstage tours.

Theatre manager Elaine Teague said: "It was lovely to welcome so many people into the playhouse to see what goes on behind the scenes.

"We hope it has given people an insight into the exciting world of theatre and encourage them to find out more about the variety of things we offer here."
