A hit-and-run victim smiled again while having a free makeover and meeting Another Level singer Dane Bowers on Tuesday.

A black 4x4 pickup truck knocked down Chelsie as she crossed Tattenham Way, Tadworth, on her way home from Beacon School at about 3.15pm on May 15.

Her angry grandmother Christine contacted the Epsom Guardian in a bid to track down or prick the conscience of the "coward" who left her lying bleeding in the road.

After reading the story, Jackie Bowers, owner of Lovely Betty hair salon in Kingswood, invited Chelsie down for a free blow-dry and a manicure.

Singer Bowers also popped in to cheer her up.

Kelsie Jenkins, who styled her hair on Tuesday, said: "She read the story, felt sorry for her and decided that it would be a nice pick-me-up. Chelsie seemed to be on the mend which is brilliant for her."

On Facebook group What’s on in Banstead, which helped to organise the makeover, her grandmother Christine said: "Thank you so much for a lovely afternoon.

"It was lovely to see a little bit of sparkle return to Chelsie’s eyes. Hopefully your kindness will have helped her to recover from her frightening ordeal."

Her mum Jessica added: "Had a lovely time. You are all so friendly and Chelsie loved her makeover."

Police have yet to track down the culprit.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses in tracing the vehicle which failed to stop following the incident and travelled down Great Tattenhams towards Epsom Downs.

"It is described as a black Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck which had silver or white sign writing on it. The driver is described as a white male, approximately 30 years of age, with a bald head.

"The vehicle’s offside wing mirror was knocked off and there was also possible damage to its bumper."

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting the reference number P14140905.
