Four African car wash workers were arrested this afternoon on suspicion of over-staying their visas and illegal entry into the UK.

The swoop took place at the Hands On Car Wash, in the car park of Sainsbury's, in Kiln Lane, Epsom, between 11am and 1.30pm.

Home Office immigration enforcement officers arrested three Nigerian men and one Ugandan man for suspected immigration offences.

The men, who are employees of the car wash, and aged between 30 and 40-years-old, are currently being interviewed by officials.

A spokeswoman from Sainsbury's said they are not employees of the supermarket.

A Home Office spokesman said: "Four men were arrested for immigration offences.

"There were two Ugandan nationals arrested for over-staying their visas, one Nigerian man for also over-staying his visa and another Nigerian man arrested on suspicion of illegal entry into the UK.

"They are all currently in Home Office detention while we take steps to remove them from the country."

The spokesman added: "Illegal working is not victimless.  It defrauds the taxpayer, undercuts honest employers and cheats legitimate job-seekers out of employment opportunities.

"Our enforcement visits are intelligence-led and timed to maximise their effectiveness.

"We would urge members of the public with information about suspected immigration issues to get in touch."
