An army helicopter technician raised £500 by running the London Marathon for a charity which helps disabled youngsters.

Ben Watts, 21, from Stoneleigh, ran on Sunday to raise money for Epsom Phab, a charity which runs activities for disabled and non-disabled youngsters, now based at Nescot, Ewell.

The 21-year old, who works on Apache attack helicopters, completed his first ever marathon in just three hours and 38 minutes, after three months of training.

He has so far raised £500 for Epsom Phab, but is hoping for more donations.

Mr Watts said: "I really enjoyed it.  I felt great for 20 miles but the last six were really difficult.

"I definitely hit the wall and was running on empty by 23 miles but just getting to the finish line was special."

He said he was inspired to raise money for Epsom Phab after seeing its work with disabled children.

Mr Watts added: "My best friend used to help out there every Friday when we were at school and I visit it when I can too.

"It’s just a really great cause as all the disabled children can meet and they also get taken on holiday once a year.

"It provides a great opportunity for them to get together and also for young kids to use their time volunteering."
