The Army will be in town tomorrow night in a bid to persuade people to consider a career in the military.
With hundreds of different roles and thousands of full and part time jobs available, this is a chance to meet serving troops and discuss the options.
The event is being organised as part of the More Than Meets the Eye campaign, after research suggested that a lack of awareness about Army life could be stopping potential recruits from considering a career with the British Army.
Last year the Army outsourced its recruiting to Capita to save money, but in October it was reported that there had been a 35 per cent drop in the number of people undergoing tests to join.
The Army blamed it on teething problems with the new contract amd people's mistaken belief that, with the iminent withdrawal from Afghanistan, it would not be recruiting.
Major General Chris Tickell, director general, army recruiting and training division, said: "The Army is restructuring to ensure regular and reserve soldiers are fully integrated into one force, training and working alongside each other.
"This campaign reflects that and will kick start our 2014 activity to recruit new full-time soldiers and increase the trained strength of part-time soldiers.
"We hope to do this by challenging public perceptions that the Army purely consists of frontline combat roles. We want to show potential recruits who are perhaps thinking about how they can improve their careers and lives that there is much more to the Army than meets the eye."
Roles include bricklayers, communications specialists, logistics specialists, air conditioning and refrigerator engineers, welders, veterinary technicians, musicians, technical storemen, environment health technicians, health care assistants and infantry soldiers.
An Army spokeswoman said: "It is not surprising that as operations drawdown in Afghanistan and with reductions in the size of the Army, some people may have mistakenly believed the Army is not recruiting.
"It is inevitable that this would then impact on the number of potential soldiers attending assessment centres.
"We have only recently launched a significant Army recruitment drive so we would not expect this to have had an impact yet on the numbers attending assessment centres."
Tomorrow’s open evening will be held at the Army Reserve Centre at Mercator House, Welbeck Close, Ewell, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
