Schoolchildren have been taught how to weave willow and have created a village from it, complete with outdoor classrooms.

Pupils at Kingswood House School in West Hill, Epsom, have made the classrooms by planting living willow domes.

Kingswood House Association, the school’s parents’ group, funded the project which involved the whole school.

Building work took place on Monday and Wednesday near the school's adventure playground.

Headmaster Peter Brooks said: "The willow village has endless learning potential as it is hands-on experience for the children and it will also enhance our school environment for many years to come.

"We will also be developing willow craft workshops making art charcoal, weaving bird feeders, baskets and trays and we could also move onto chairs and other furniture.

"The children will be able to enjoy gardening as well as wildlife studies and generally enjoy their outdoor classroom."
