A survey over 130 patients who received treatment for cataracts at Epsom, Sutton and St Helier Hospitals has shown that staff are delivering a high standard of care.

Results from the assessment show 100 per cent of patients were very satisfied or satisfied with the care received from staff and 92 per cent of patients were very satisfied or satisfied with the results of their operation.

Mr Paul Ursell, a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at the trust, said: “We are absolutely delighted with these results. Not only is this is exceptional news for the service and our dedicated team, but it’s also fantastic news for the people who need our services.

”Patient care is absolutely vital to every member of our team and to see that reflected in these results is very satisfying – we are delighted that our patients, who have firsthand experience of our service and staff, have recognised and commended our commitment.

“But of course, we know that we have to keep up the hard work and we will not become complacent. Our goal is to ensure we maintain and enhance these high standards and continue to provide a quality experience for everyone who comes into contact with the service.”

Treating cataracts involves an operation to remove the eye’s cloudy lens and replacing it with a clear plastic one.
