The cast of Stranger Things are reportedly cashing in on the huge success of the Netflix series with massive pay rises.

The stars of the nostalgic sci-fi series will earn up to 350,000 US dollars (£249,000) an episode when it returns for a third outing, sources confirmed to industry publication The Hollywood Reporter.

Adult stars Winona Ryder and David Harbour will pull in the biggest pay packets while child stars Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and Noah Schnapp are poised to make 250,000 US dollars (£178,000) per episode, according to the report.

Onscreen teenagers Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton and Joe Keery will apparently collect approximately 150,000 US dollars (£107,000) an episode.

British actress Millie Bobby Brown, 14, who is considered the break-out star of the show for her role as Eleven, is reportedly earning more than her male co-stars after she separated herself from the rest of the cast during the renegotiations.

Sources suggested to the publication she is earning between the 250,000 US dollars earned by the younger stars and the 350,000 US dollars earned by the veterans, in her own tier of around 300,000 US dollars (£214,000).

The new salaries represent massive pay increases for the TV stars following the huge success of the streaming show.

The child actors were reportedly making around 20,000 US dollars (£14,000) for the first and second seasons of the series, while Ryder was tipped to be earning 100,000 US dollars (£71,000) an episode and Harbour was pulling in 80,000 US dollars (£57,000).

Renegotiation of contracts is common practice in Hollywood when shows are a hit.

Other casts to enter high-profile renegotiations include Friends, who each famously landed one million dollars an episode, Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory.

The top five cast members of the E4 comedy about a group of scientists, Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar emulated the success of the Friends cast when they landed one million dollars an episode.

The cast of Big Little Lies, starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, also recently renegotiated their contracts as the show will return for a second series.
