The Eurovision song contest is back this weekend and this year Britain’s hopes – faint though they are, with odds of 150/1 – lay with Joe and Jake.

We tracked down half a dozen Eurovision parties worth a look on Saturday night – five of them are close to home in south London and one is the London Eurovision party, just because.

Out Clapham’s Eurovision Party 2016, from 7pm at Clapham Picturehouse

Out Clapham, the monthly LGBT film club, celebrates all things Eurovision at the Picturehouse bar with classic song contest tunes from through the years plus themed drinks and nibbles. Screen 4 will be screening the live broadcast from Stockholm and every ticket holder will get a goody back with scorecards and sweets. Dressing up as your favourite nation is encouraged. The Two Brewers, Clapham High Street

The cabaret club hosts its own extravaganza from 8pm with the contest shown on big screens and hosted by Sandra and Titti La Camp, who are sure to make it a fun evening. The tunes come from DJ Demon in the Cabaret bar and DJ Paul Short in the Club bar. Entry is free before 10pm and £8 after. Go to the2brewers.com

Out of Office, Battersea

The café-cum-workspace-cum-bar is going Eurovision crazy with a screening and fancy dress party. There will be prizes up for grabs, cocktails and beers from competing nations. Go to outofoffice.designmynight.com

Counter, Vauxhall arches from 8pm

Counter’s ‘little gay brother’ BackCounter celebrates with Vanity Von Glow providing pre-show entertainment and commentary from cabaret stars Ivy Paige and Dusty Limits. Musical interludes will be accompanied by Duncan Day and the evening culminates in a performance from Esquire de Lune. Tickets cost £10. Go to counterrestaurants.com

Roxy Bar and Screen, Borough, from 9.30pm

London Eurovision Party at Café De Paris in the West End

Back for its ninth year in the West End, it is set to be packed with Eurovision stars and hosted by former contestant from 2000, Nicki French and BBC man Paddy O’Connell. As well as live music, there are tunes from DJ Dave. Go to londoneurovision.com
