Presented by The Airballoon, Live At Scream in the Showcase room at the Scream Lounge Music Venue is a great way to sit and enjoy live music on Halloween night, writes Rian Hoskins.

The main act is Yeti Love, a group consisting of guitarists Pete Hamilton and Dave Sears, as well as bassist Jules Ecclestone.

Pete and Dave of Yeti Love were then involved in the set-up of the promotional company The Airballoon.

Both were established more than a year ago and it is the first time they are producing a special show for Halloween.

Richard Hamilton, who helps to run The Airballoon, hopes that this can help Yeti Love attain a bigger profile.

Describing their musical style as “acoustic folk rock,” Hamilton explains how their debut album is being re-launched in February with the help of a couple of producers in Germany.

If Croydon Council approves it, The Airballoon are hoping to hold their own festival at Coulsdon Memorial Park with bigger name artists and a wider variety of music orientation as well as Yeti Love.

The owner of Scream Lounge, Aide Aires, believes that they can still attract a big enough audience on a Friday night despite the growth of nightclubs.

Aires says: “It’s a busy turnout for our Halloween specials, “We are one of the few live venues left in Croydon and so offer something different."

While Halloween is more associated with house parties and clubbing than independent music venues, Aide states that Scream Lounge is a very good alternative to the recent trend.

He says: “It really is all about the musicians and bands, dancers and performing arts that make Scream what it is, and it’s the live music lovers that come to watch, that keep small venues like ours alive.

“It is difficult, but we’re doing well.”

On the night itself, there will be other special guests and a barbecue.

Those who turn up in fancy dress, whether as a yeti or not, can get free entry. Those attending must be aged 18 and over.
