With summer here and sunshine finally spilling onto the capitals’ pubs, it’s the best time to go drinking in one of the many beer gardens on offer.
We at News Shopper have collected some of the best beer gardens in the borough for you to grab a pint at these sunny months.
The Old Brewery – Greenwich
Located just yards from the legendary Cutty Sark, in the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College, The Old Brewery is a unique and historic pub with outdoor seating right on the banks of the Thames.
Princess of Wales – Blackheath
Not only is there a heated beer garden, but this wonderful pub in Blackheath is located right next to the Heath. The owners are more than happy for people to bring their drinks out onto the green for a picnic, so long as you bring the glasses back.
The Greenwich Union – Greenwich
The first pub by the craft brewer Meantime Brewing, The Union steers clear of mainstream products with their own brands, served in their leafy beer garden out back.
Dial Arch – Woolwich
Located in the heart of the Royal Arsenal Riverside Development, the wooden terrace out front is a fantastic place to go for a pint and a hearty pub meal.
The Cutty Sark – Greenwich
Sat on the banks of the Thames at Ballast Quay, this is another fantastic Thames riverside pub where you can take your drink out front and enjoy your beer in the sun.
The British Oak – Blackheath
This beer garden comes with live chickens. It also has craft beer and ciders, delicious pies, live music, and all sorts of other great traditional British pub things. But live chickens in a beer garden is something I didn’t know I wanted until I saw it.
Gipsy Moth – Greenwich
A crowd favourite, judging by how everyone I asked about the best beer gardens in Greenwich all said Gipsy Moth. The grade I listed pub with the Cutty Sark peering over it can even be privately rented out for up to 200 people.
