A comedy night celebrating new acts is set to take its first bow in Twickenham this month.

Twickenham Comedy Club launches at the Patchworks Bar at The Cabbage Patch pub on Thursday, July 21, featuring 15 comedians and headliners The Antipoet.

Initially envisaged as a monthly night, it has been set up by Lovers Lights Gallery owner Janis Haves, who was used to playing and organising music gigs but only dipped her toe into stand-up comedy relatively recently.

She said: “My present to myself when I moved the gallery from The Green to Church Street was to do a terrifying but exhilarating 10 week absolute beginner stand-up comedy course in London with a graduation showcase gig at the end.

“Since then I’ve been bitten by the comedy bug and have been performing several times a week at open comedy nights around London.”

Janis decided it would be good to have more comedy nights in south west London for new comedians, so she set one up.

She said: “I am hoping to include a really good mix of straight stand up, story- telling, musical comedy, funny poetry and hopefully even some magicians here and there.  Lots of fun guaranteed though.”
