A new comedy club in Norbury promises to play host to a hilarious line-up of some of the country's best comedians, but the acts will remain secret from audiences until they get there.

Croydon comics Nabil Abdul Rashid, 26, and Ola Gbaja, 25, launched Norbury Comedy to a full house on January 20.

The pair, who have both featured on ITV 4 show 'Stand up comedy heroes,' opened the club on London Road, to bring laughter to the masses.

In 2010, Mr AbdulRashid became the youngest black comedian to perform stand up at the Hammersmith Apollo.

Later that year he was crowned joint winner of a competition to find the funniest joke about religion.

He said: "The comedy club offers a weekly show featuring different acts, but in a slight twist we do not actually reveal which acts are on each week.

"We want people to turn up for the comedy rather than particular artists. We want Norbury Comedy Club to become a respected brand, trusted for bringing good comedy to the stage."

Each show features five acts, made up of two professionals, a compare or MC and two new comedy acts.

Mr Gbaja, a finalist in the FHM Search for a Stand Up Hero competition, added: "We pride ourselves on providing something for everyone and we feature a wide variety of comedians who each do different types of comedy.

"People don't realise there are a lot of professionals out there on the circuit. We both know how hard it is to get open spots so it is about giving different people a chance every week."

The friends hope to be able to increase the number of shows each week in the future and also offer workshops for aspiring comedians.

The club has opened in partnership with Norbury restaurant Baba Foundation, which entitles audiences to discounted meals before the show.

Shows take place every Sunday and Croydon Guardian Readers can get 2 for 1 tickets using the discount code MAILINGLIST.
