Death-defying acrobatics from Chinese street dancers at the Rose Theatre, Kingston

A vibrant Chinese circus group with traditional stunts and electrifying modern acrobatics will be coming to the Rose Theatre for just four days next month, writes Nazia Dewji.

Internationally acclaimed production ShangHi by Cirque du Ciel will be a two-hour long extravaganza of death defying aerial displays, stunning spinning silk and powerful street dance routines.

The live showpiece, with more than 30 talented performers and 500 costume changes, is set against a backdrop of intricate scenery that uses multimedia to help show audiences a true cultural circus.

Having been brought back to the capital due to popular demand, ShangHi uses jaw-dropping feats of strength and skill with dazzling diablos, Chinese monkey poles and thumping drums.

The entire production is a thrilling adventure for audiences who will be travelling through the mysterious, imaginative and colourful dreams of a young Chinese girl.

ShangHi was first directed in China by Cirque Du Soleil’s Guy Caron before it was theatrically reworked to appeal to audiences of all ages across the globe.

ShangHi, The Rose, 24-26 High Street, Kingston, September 6 to September 9, show starts 7.30pm with matinee shows at 2.30pm and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, tickets priced £8 to £26.
