BRIT pupil stages first musical

A twisted take on the nursery rhyme Jack and Jill is set to debut.

Written by teenage theatre student Dominic Powell, Rosemary Lane is a contemporary take on the ditty, and follows Jack as he tries to piece together the events that led to his ill-fated fall down the hill.

Dominic, 18, is a student at The BRIT School, and began writing plays aged 12.

He has gathered a cast of ten fellow pupils for his play’s first showing, at the school’s Obie Theatre.

He says: "The story tackles issues such as mental illness, but there are lighter moments too provided through some of the characters Jack and his lovely girlfriend who meets while scaling Denton Hill.

"Ultimately I am hoping for a long run at a theatre in the autumn."

Beginning writing in August last year, while also having to do school work, Dominic completed his script in December before tackling his first full musical score.

Rosemary Lane, Obie Theatre, Brit School, the Crescent, Croydon, July 19 8pm.

Tickets adults £8 and £6 0208 665 8617.
