  • "The last full Ofsted was actually in 2009 when it was given top marks - it's taken just three years to deteriorate to this dreadful level. And not actually sure the majority of parents ARE in support of the Headteacher...."

Roke Primary School classed inadequate by Ofsted

A primary school formerly rated as outstanding has been slapped with the lowest mark available in the latest Ofsted inspection.

Roke Primary School, in Kenley, received top marks from the education regulator in 2005-6 but was classed as needing improvement in an inspection carried out in May.

Achievement of its pupils, quality of teaching and pupil behaviour were classed as satisfactory, while leadership and management were given as inadequate.

Head teacher, Caroline Phillips, said: “As head teacher this is very disappointing. But our team has the backing of the council, the governors and parents at the school.

”We recognised the areas of weakness in the school and were already working on them before Ofsted came. ”

Councillor Tim Pollard, cabinet member for children, families and learning, said: “While it is of course deeply disappointing, everyone is confident it will be possible to see the changes made in time for the re-inspection.”
