Lambeth Council urges residents to recycle Christmas trees

The festive period has come to an end, which can only mean one thing- it’s time to recycle those Christmas trees.
Residents living in kerbside properties can leave their trees next to their bin on collection day and Lambeth Council will pick them up from January 9.
Alternatively, people can recycle their trees at sites across the borough, including Windmill Drive in Clapham Common, Vale Street in West Norwood, or the upper car park in Streatham Common, from January 9 to 22 between 9am and 3pm.
The council is encouraging people to recycle as much waste as possible, after it was revealed that residents' eco efforts saved the borough £1.4million in 2011.
Councillor Lorna Campbell, cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “If you're not already a committed recycler, now is the time to start, because not recycling all we can wastes money that could be better spent this year on vital services.
“It’s also just as important, and indeed economically beneficial, to think about how you reduce the amount of waste you produce in the first place.”
