Derek Hockin, who has been a member of the Rotary Club of Epsom for 25 years, was presented with the Paul Harris Award for longstanding and meritorious service to the group.

Derek has recently raised over £20,000 for the Teenage Cancer Centre at the Royal Marsden Hospital, the highlight of which was a fund-raising dinner hosted by Jimmy Tarbuck OBE.

And incoming President Richard Harris, former Deputy Chief Executive of Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, said the group was always on the lookout for new members to emulate Mr Hockin's service.

"This past year we raised £5,800 for Haiti from our street collection and £4,000 for the Children's Trust, amongst numerous other donations," he said.

"We have a full and ambitious programme for the next year with plenty of hands-on projects, such as the recently completed Discovery Garden at St Ebba's Hospital.

"We welcome new members to both our lunchtime and evening meetings."

Epsom Rotary is involved in supporting young carers and the elderly and helps with education programmes locally and raises money for both local and international charities.
